Instead of sending a traditional valentine, why not send this cute heart felt (pun intended) garland. It's simple to make but it also has huge impact and can be appreciated long after Valentine's day.
The first step is to gather your supplies. I used a sewing machine when making these garlands which made it a really quick project, but you could hand sew it with embroidery thread if you don't have a sewing machine.
Make a heart template out of thick card stock. I free handed the templates since my printer in awaiting an ink delivery, but you can print off a heart template from clipart if that's easier for you. I chose to make two garlands, one with big hearts and one with small hearts but it doesn't matter, just whatever size you prefer.
Next trace the heart templates onto your felt. Then cut out all of your hearts. I cut out 24 large hearts and 24 small hearts. The large hearts were 7cm across, so the garland was 168cm long, which was a good length for hanging. The small hearts were 4.5cm across and so the garland was 108cm which is the perfect size for mailing.
Now arrange the hearts in the colour order you want and sew them one after the other, feeding them into the machine, as you go. Make sure to back stitch when you start and finish to secure the thread.
And it's that simple!
If you do want to give the garland as a gift, you can make a tag on one end that reads, "I love you..." and on the other end, "this much!".
Definitely a 'heart felt' gift ;)
So sweet<B
